The King of Fighters '95 took the formula of KOF '94 and added the two things fans had asked for: team edit, so you can pick any three fighters you like, and a rival for the hero. Iori Yagami debuts here, leading the Rivals Team with Billy Kane from Fatal Fury and Eiji Kisaragi from Art of Fighting 2. His feud with Kyo Kusanagi – two clans that once sealed the serpent Orochi together – becomes the heart of the series.

The tournament ends with a twist: Kyo's father Saisyu Kusanagi appears as a sub-boss, followed by Omega Rugal, who survived KOF '94 with a cybernetic body and the power of Orochi.

How it plays

The engine is close to KOF '94 – gauge charging with A + B + C, the dodge with A + B – but faster, with more combo opportunities and new moves for most of the cast. Iori is especially strong, which is part of why he became an instant fan favorite.

• Iori Yagami – fireball, uppercut and a fast rushdown game.
• Kyo Kusanagi – the classic hero with powerful close-range combos.
• Terry Bogard and Ryo Sakazaki – simple, reliable picks for new players.

Tips

• Build a team with one zoner (a strong fireball), one rushdown character and one grappler.
• Omega Rugal's Kaiser Wave is huge – jump it early or dodge through it.
• Charge your gauge between rounds of pressure; a full gauge raises your damage.
