About The King of Fighters 2000

The King of Fighters 2000 is the high point of the NESTS saga and, for many players, the best striker-based KOF. It keeps the four-fighter teams of KOF '99 but makes strikers far more flexible: they can be called during combos, in the air and to escape pressure. Every character also has an Another Striker – an alternate assist, often a guest from another SNK game – which made the roster feel enormous.

New fighters include Kula Diamond, the ice-powered girl from NESTS who became one of the most popular characters in the series, plus Ramon, Vanessa, Seth and Lin. The final boss is Zero.

How it plays

You build a team of four: three fighters and one striker. Strikers use their own counter, shown at the bottom of the screen. Counter mode and Armor mode from KOF '99 return, but most of the strategy revolves around creative striker combos.

Best characters

• Kula Diamond – great pokes, ice projectiles and easy combos.
• K' – the saga's hero, mobile and aggressive.
• Kyo and Iori – still top choices with strong strikers behind them.

Tips

• Choose a striker that covers your weaknesses – an anti-air striker for a rushdown character, for example.
• Use strikers to make unsafe moves safe or to extend combos.
• Watch the striker counter at the bottom of the screen – running out leaves you without help.
