About The King of Fighters 2002

The King of Fighters 2002 is the most played KOF in Latin America – the game you still see in Mexican and Peruvian arcades and in online tournaments today. After the NESTS saga, it returns to the "dream match" idea of KOF '98: no storyline, a huge roster of fan favorites, and pure 3-on-3 team battles without strikers.

The cast spans the whole series – Kyo and Iori, the Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting teams, K' and Kula from the NESTS saga, the Orochi team, plus some surprises. The final boss is Omega Rugal, with Kusanagi – a clone of Kyo – as the sub-boss.

How it plays

KOF 2002 is built for combos. Press B + C with at least one stock to enter MAX mode: your gauge becomes a timer and you can cancel one special move into another. That opens up long, flashy combos ending in MAX supers and the hidden MAX2 super moves. The team's third fighter can store up to five stocks, so team order matters.

The core KOF tools are all here: short hops, rolls (A + B), blowback attacks (C + D) and guard cancels.

Best characters

• Kyo Kusanagi – easy fireball and uppercut, great combos with Yami Barai.
• Iori Yagami – the classic Aoi Hana combo and strong pressure.
• K' – fast, mobile, great for beginners.
• Terry Bogard – simple commands and the Buster Wolf super.
• Orochi team – Yashiro, Shermie and Chris hit hard once you know them.

Tips

• Learn one MAX combo per character: jump D → close C → special → MAX cancel → special → super.
• Put your strongest player last; they get the biggest power stock.
• Use blowback (C + D) and rolls to escape pressure instead of jumping.
