About Metal Slug Advance

Metal Slug Advance (2004) brought the series to the Game Boy Advance with an original adventure. The heroes are new recruits Walter Ryan and Tyra Elson, who end up fighting their way off an island taken over by the rebel army.

Because it was made for a handheld, the game plays a little differently from the arcade titles:

• A health bar replaces the classic one-hit deaths, so you can take a few hits.
• Collectible cards are hidden throughout the stages; finding them unlocks bonuses and encourages exploration.
• Stages are larger and reward going back to search for secrets.

Why play it

The hand-drawn Metal Slug style survives surprisingly well on the small screen, and the health bar makes it one of the friendliest games in the series for newcomers. It is a great way to play Metal Slug on your phone.

Tips

• Explore every corner – many cards are hidden behind breakable objects.
• Use vehicles whenever you find them; they protect your health bar.
• Save special ammo for bosses.
