About Metal Slug 3

Metal Slug 3 (2000) is the most ambitious game of the classic era and the one most fans call the peak of the series. Marco, Tarma, Eri and Fio return for five missions packed with ideas. Almost every mission branches into different routes – underwater, in caves, on mountain cliffs – so no two runs have to be the same.

The enemies are wilder than ever: zombies that can turn you into a zombie (with a deadly blood-vomit attack), giant crabs, man-eating plants, yetis and, finally, the alien Mars People in a final mission that takes you all the way into space.

Vehicles and transformations

New vehicles include the Elephant Slug, the Ostrich Slug, the Drill Slug and the Slug Mariner submarine. Transformations from earlier games return, joined by the zombie form – slow, but with a screen-filling special.

Why play it

Metal Slug 3 has the most variety, the biggest bosses and the most secrets of any game in the series. It is long and challenging, and the final mission is one of the most memorable endings in arcade history.

Tips

• Try a different route each time – some are much easier than others.
• Do not panic if you become a zombie; your attacks get stronger, and you can still finish the stage.
• Save bombs for the final mission; it is long and full of bosses.
