About Double Dragon II: The Revenge

Double Dragon II: The Revenge (1988) begins darker than the first game: the Black Warriors attack, and Marian is shot down by their leader Willy. Billy and Jimmy Lee set out for revenge through the gang's territory – and at the end they face a mysterious final enemy who mirrors their own moves.

How it plays

The biggest change is the control scheme. Instead of separate punch and kick buttons, you have attack left, jump and attack right. Attacking in the direction you face throws punches; attacking behind you uses kicks and the famous backward elbow. It takes a moment to get used to, but it makes fighting crowds on both sides much easier.

New moves include the spinning cyclone kick, and enemies are tougher and more numerous than in the first game.

Tips

• Use the attack button for the direction behind you to hit enemies sneaking up from the back.
• The cyclone kick (jump and attack at the top of the jump) clears groups.
• Pick up weapons right away – the later stages are crowded.
