About Double Dragon

Double Dragon (1987) by Technōs Japan is the arcade game that set the rules for every beat 'em up that followed. The Black Warriors gang kidnaps Marian, and the twin martial artists Billy and Jimmy Lee walk through the city streets, a factory, a forest and the gang's hideout to get her back.

It was revolutionary: two players fighting together, enemies you grab by the hair, weapons you take from thugs and throw back, and a final twist – after beating the boss Willy, the two brothers have to fight each other to see who wins Marian.

How it plays

You have punch, kick and jump buttons, plus moves like the elbow strike behind you, the hair grab with knees and throws. Enemies drop baseball bats, whips, knives, boxes and oil drums that you can use.

Tips

The backward elbow (attack behind you) is the strongest move in the game – many enemies cannot counter it.
Knock enemies off ledges for instant knockouts.
Watch out for Abobo, the giant brute – keep your distance and use weapons.
In co-op, be careful: you can hit your partner.
