About Street Fighter Alpha 2

Street Fighter Alpha 2 (1996) is set between the original Street Fighter and Street Fighter II, and it looks completely different from SF2: bright, anime-inspired art, smooth animation and a faster pace. It builds on the first Alpha with a bigger roster and one of the most loved systems in the series – custom combos.

The cast mixes classic Street Fighter faces – Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li in her original outfit, Sagat, M. Bison – with fighters from Final Fight like Guy, Sodom and Rolento, and newcomers like Sakura, who would become a series regular.

How it plays

• Super meter with three levels, letting you use stronger versions of super moves.
• Alpha counters – counterattack while blocking, at the cost of meter.
• Air blocking – block attacks while jumping.
• Custom combos – activate with meter and chain moves freely for a few seconds.

Best characters

• Ryu and Ken – familiar and solid.
• Sakura – aggressive, with great combos.
• Chun-Li – fast pokes and excellent custom combos.
• Akuma – powerful, but harder to play.

Tips

• Use alpha counters to escape pressure, but do not waste them – they cost meter.
• Practice a simple custom combo in training before using it online.
• Air blocking means jump-ins are less reliable – anti-air with normal moves.
